Construction Site Safety

A construction-site course that has workers read a live site for its full range of hazards — falls, struck-by, excavation, electrical, and housekeeping — across 11 interactions and 7 competencies, so they respond across the whole site rather than one topic.

Construction site safety training aligned with the Manitoba WSH Act, WSH Regulation MR 217/2006, and CSA S269.2 (Access Scaffolding). Construction work kills in four ways this course calls the "Big Four": falls, struck-by, caught-in/between, and electrocution. This course teaches workers to recognize the Big Four on a live site, apply fall protection and scaffold/opening safety, work safely around excavations and trenches, control struck-by and caught-in/between hazards and site traffic, recognize overhead and underground electrical hazards, complete a field-level hazard assessment before each task, and understand the multi-employer coordination role of the prime contractor. The online theory establishes the Trained state; the employer records the site-specific construction confirmations (site orientation, the controls for the worker's tasks, and a field-level hazard assessment) as the Observed state, signed off as Competent.

Equip every construction worker and supervisor to recognize the Big Four hazards, apply the right controls, complete a field-level hazard assessment before work, and coordinate safely on a multi-employer site.

What you will learn

Course outline

  1. Construction Site Hazards and the Big Four — Why construction is high-risk, the four hazards that kill on construction sites, and how Manitoba MR 217/2006 and the roles fit together.
  2. Falls, Scaffolds, and Excavations — Fall protection and scaffold safety, and the trench cave-in hazard that kills quickly.
  3. Struck-By, Caught-In, and Electrical Hazards — Keeping clear of equipment and loads, avoiding caught-in/between points, and respecting overhead and underground power.
  4. Controls and the Field-Level Hazard Assessment — Matching each hazard to its control, and the field-level hazard assessment that ties it together before every task.
  5. Site Coordination, Roles, and Your Site — How multi-employer sites are coordinated, the project safety plan, and the site-specific procedures you must know.

Laws and standards covered

Certificate and renewal

Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year. Review training at least annually and whenever the site, tasks, or hazards change. Work at height, scaffold erection, and excavation may require additional task-specific competency beyond this course. No exact mandatory theory-hour minimum is set in Manitoba law — industry/provider standard applies.
