Fire Safety & Emergency Procedures

A fire safety and emergency course that has workers make the fight-or-flee call on realistic fire scenarios — choosing the right extinguisher or getting out — across 11 interactions and 7 competencies, so they act on trained judgment when the alarm sounds.

Fire safety and emergency procedures training aligned with the Manitoba WSH Act, the Manitoba Fire Code, The Fires Prevention and Emergency Response Act, and NFPA 10 (portable fire extinguishers). It teaches workers the fire triangle and the five fire classes, how to recognize and prevent fire hazards, how to match the correct extinguisher to the fire class and use the PASS technique, the critical fight-or-flee decision, how to evacuate on an alarm (nearest exit, no…

Equip every worker to prevent fires, choose and use the right extinguisher when it is safe, decide quickly whether to fight or flee, and evacuate to the muster point — and to know the fire safety plan for their site.

Certificate and renewal

Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year. Review training at least annually and practise fire drills per the fire safety plan. Extinguishers get a monthly visual check and an annual service.

This certificate records completion of knowledge training in fire safety and emergency procedures — the fire triangle and fire classes, hazard recognition, extinguisher selection, the fight-or-evacuate decision, evacuation and muster, and the fire warden role — and it records the Trained state only. It does not establish that the holder can operate a portable fire extinguisher. Matching the extinguisher to the fire class and applying Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep are taught and assessed here as knowledge; before a worker is relied on to fight even a small fire, the employer must provide hands-on extinguisher practice, observe them doing it, and sign that observation off as Competent. The site fire safety plan, the fire warden assignments made under it, and the instructions of the responding fire department always govern.
