First Aid Awareness

A Foundation/Awareness first aid course delivering 7 interactions and 6 validated competencies focused on the first critical minutes, scene safety, calling for help, and what to do and not do. Workers learn to act with intent instead of freezing.

Enterprise-grade emergency preparedness and first aid awareness training aligned with Manitoba WSH Regulation Part 5 (First Aid Equipment, Supplies and Services), Canadian Red Cross / St. John Ambulance first-aid frameworks, and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner. This course is AWARENESS-LEVEL. It does NOT certify a designated workplace first-aid attendant — that role requires hands-on certification through Red Cross or St. John. This course covers emergency preparedness planning, fire safety and evacuation, the first-aid kit duty under s.5.12(1) — which requires kits meeting CSA Z1220-17, the standard Manitoba adopts by reference and the source of kit types and contents — chemical spill response, shelter-in-place, and the decision framework for when a designated attendant is required versus when awareness training is sufficient. Built for Manitoba employers preparing for COR audits and the WCB claims defensibility that first-aid records support.

Equip every worker with the awareness to respond appropriately in the first minutes of a workplace medical event, fire, spill, or shelter-in-place situation, AND to recognize when designated first-aid attendant training is legally required.

Certificate and renewal

Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year. Awareness training reviewed annually. NOTE: this awareness course does NOT replace the certified attendant qualification required where Part 5 thresholds apply (typically 3-year certification through Red Cross or St. John).

This certificate records completion of awareness-level training in workplace first aid and emergency response. It is not the certified first-aid attendant qualification. Where the thresholds in Manitoba WSH Regulation Part 5 require a designated first-aid attendant, that attendant must hold a current certification from a recognized provider such as the Canadian Red Cross or St. John Ambulance — typically valid three years — and this certificate does not stand in for it.
