A core interactive course that trains a worker's eye on the spills, cords, edges, and level changes that put people on the floor, and builds the habit of fixing or reporting rather than stepping around. Its 11 interactions and 7 competencies turn everyday hazard recognition into action.
Slips, trips and falls happen in every kind of Manitoba workplace — and they are almost always preventable. This course teaches every worker the three mechanisms (a slip is a loss of traction, a trip is when a foot is caught, and both can end in a fall), the everyday hazards behind them, and the controls that stop them. Told through Arjun — a warehouse worker who catches himself on a wet dock floor and then has to decide what to do about it — every module connects the theory to a real moment. You will learn to read a floor, respond to a spill, manage cords and mats, dress for winter conditions, and report the near misses that protect the next person.
Equip every worker to recognize slip, trip and fall hazards and apply the controls that prevent them — so they do not become a sprain, fracture, or head-injury statistic, and so the employer has documented evidence that they know.

Who this course is for
Workers in any setting where wet floors, clutter, uneven surfaces, or changes in level create everyday fall hazards.
All workers — slips, trips and falls happen in every workplace and industry
Workers in kitchens, wash bays, warehouses, retail, distribution, and healthcare
Workers exposed to Manitoba winter conditions (ice, snow, tracked-in water)
Cleaners, maintenance, and anyone responsible for walking surfaces
Supervisors responsible for housekeeping compliance and inspections
What you will learn
Distinguish the three mechanisms — slip, trip, and the resulting fall — and their common causes
Recognize and control slip hazards (wet, greasy, icy surfaces; contamination; smooth soles; weather)
Recognize and control trip hazards (clutter, cords, level changes, curled mats, poor lighting)
Apply housekeeping and clean-as-you-go to keep walking surfaces clear and clean at all times
Select slip-resistant footwear in good repair for the conditions and understand CSA Z195
Apply the hierarchy of controls (eliminate and engineer before PPE) and report hazards and near misses
Course outline
Why Slips, Trips & Falls Matter — The three mechanisms behind slips, trips and falls, why they are so common, and the costs — human and legal — that follow.
Preventing Slips — What causes a loss of traction, and the surface, weather, and footwear measures that stop slips before they happen.
Preventing Trips & Good Housekeeping — Clutter, cords, level changes and lighting — and why housekeeping is the single most powerful trip control in any workplace.
Footwear, the Hierarchy & Stairs — Choosing the right footwear, applying the hierarchy of controls so PPE is always the last line, and understanding stairs and falls to lower levels.
Reporting, the Program & Your Site — Reporting hazards and near misses, the workplace program that ties the controls together, and the site-specific layer that makes training real.
Laws and standards covered
