A bloodborne pathogens and exposure-control course that rehearses the exposure moment itself — barriers, safe sharps handling, and post-needlestick and splash steps — across 19 interactions and 6 competencies, so response is practised rather than merely read.
Bloodborne-pathogen and exposure-control awareness for everyone who could meet blood or body fluids at work — in healthcare, dental and personal services (tattoo, esthetics), laboratories and research, NDT and industrial settings, waste and sanitation, first response, and any job where a worker…
Equip everyone who could meet blood or body fluids at work to understand that you can't see the exposure — a bloodborne pathogen gives no warning, so the control is designed, not…
Workers who may contact blood or bodily fluids — first aid attendants, healthcare, custodial, and emergency response staff.
Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year.
This certificate records completion of awareness-level training in bloodborne pathogens and exposure control — routes of exposure, standard precautions, the hierarchy of controls, sharps handling and the post-exposure response — and it records the Trained state only. It does not establish that the holder performs the physical steps this course grades. Washing an exposed wound site correctly under running water without scrubbing or using bleach, and handling a used sharp one-handed straight into a CSA Z316.6 container without recapping it by hand, are taught and assessed here as knowledge; before a worker is relied on for them, the employer must observe those acts and sign that observation off as Competent. The employer written exposure control plan and the requirements of MR 217/2006 always govern, and this certificate is not the exposure-control-plan administrator or infection-prevention-and-control qualification, nor a first-aid certification.
About 1 hour online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.
One year from the day you pass. Orientra’s standard is for bloodborne-pathogen and exposure-control awareness training to be reviewed at least annually and whenever the biological agents, the tasks, the sharps or devices in use, or the workplace's exposure-control program change — a new procedure or piece of equipment, a change in the fluids or agents workers could meet, a new sharps device, a change in the law or the program, or a serious exposure incident or near-miss all trigger a refresh.
Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act (C.C.S.M. c. W210); Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Regulation (MR 217/2006); CSA Z316.6 — cited for sharps containers and the safe disposal of used sharps (cited by number only); and 4 more listed on this page.
