Certificate and renewal

Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year.

This certificate records completion of awareness-level training in infection prevention and control — the chain of infection, routine practices and transmission-based precautions, hand hygiene, putting on and taking off personal protective equipment, and cleaning and disinfecting surfaces — and it records the Trained state only. It does not establish that the holder performs the physical steps this course grades. Cleaning the hands at the right moments with the correct technique, taking off gloves, gown, eye protection and mask in the safe order without contaminating skin or clothing, and cleaning and disinfecting a shared surface with the right product and contact time are taught and assessed here as knowledge; before a worker is relied on for them, the employer must observe those acts and sign that observation off as Competent. The employer's own infection prevention and control program always governs, and this certificate is not an infection-prevention-and-control practitioner qualification, a respirator fit test, or a first-aid certification.

Common questions

How long does Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Awareness take?

About 1 hour online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.

How long is the Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Awareness certificate valid?

One year from the day you pass. Orientra’s standard is for infection-prevention-and-control awareness training to be reviewed at least annually and whenever the infectious agents, the tasks, the PPE in use, or the workplace's infection-control or exposure-control program change — a new procedure or piece of equipment, a change in the people or settings workers move between, a new precaution or PPE requirement, an outbreak or a change in the law or the program, or a serious exposure incident or near-miss all trigger a refresh.

Which laws and standards does Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Awareness cover?

Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act (C.C.S.M. c. W210); Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Regulation (MR 217/2006); Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC); and 4 more listed on this page.
