A core interactive awareness course on confined spaces: 6 focused scenarios on atmosphere, engulfment, and the instinct to rush in after a downed coworker, validating 7 competencies. It trains workers to recognize a hazardous confined space and its hazards before crossing the threshold.
Confined spaces kill quickly and silently — and they kill would-be rescuers as often as the first worker in. This awareness course equips every worker to recognize a confined space, understand its hazards, and know that entry is tightly controlled and must never be attempted without authorization, training, and the proper systems. It explains what a confined space is under Manitoba’s Workplace Safety and Health Regulation (s.1.1) — an enclosed or partially enclosed space that, except for the purpose of performing work, is not primarily designed or intended for human occupancy, and has restricted means of access or egress — and what makes it a hazardous confined space: any one of its design…
Equip every worker to recognize confined spaces and their hazards, understand that entry is tightly controlled under Manitoba’s WSH Regulation, never enter (or attempt a rescue) without authorization and training, and raise the alarm in an emergency — building the awareness foundation that precedes hands-on confined-space entry training.

Who this course is for
Workers who may enter or work near tanks, vaults, pits, and other confined spaces on Manitoba sites.
All workers who work in or around areas that may contain confined spaces
New and young workers learning confined-space hazard awareness
Maintenance, utilities, agriculture, construction, and process workers
Anyone who could encounter a tank, vault, pit, silo, sewer, or vessel
Workers who need awareness before any hands-on confined-space entry training
What you will learn
Recognize a confined space and a hazardous confined space under Manitoba’s WSH Regulation
Recognize the atmospheric hazards (oxygen, flammable, toxic) in confined spaces
Recognize the physical hazards (engulfment, entrapment, energy, equipment)
Describe, at an awareness level, what safe entry requires (permit, isolation, testing, ventilation, attendant, rescue plan)
Explain why you must never enter to attempt a rescue without training and equipment
Know the worker’s duty to never enter a confined space without authorization and training
Course outline
What Is a Confined Space? — Recognizing a confined space and a hazardous confined space — the definition, common examples, and why entry is tightly controlled.
The Hazards: Atmospheric & Physical — The atmospheric hazards (oxygen, flammable, toxic) and the physical hazards (engulfment, entrapment, energy, equipment) that make confined spaces deadly.
What Safe Entry Requires (Awareness) — At an awareness level: the hazard assessment/permit, isolation, testing and monitoring, ventilation, the attendant, and the rescue plan — and that entry needs hands-on training.
Never Become a Victim — Rescue Awareness — The most important confined-space message: never enter to attempt a rescue without training and equipment — raise the alarm and let the trained rescue team respond.
Your Role & Confined-Space Safety — Pulling it together: your role recognizing confined spaces, never entering without authorization and training, and the awareness-then-hands-on path.
Laws and standards covered

Certificate and renewal
Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year. This is an AWARENESS course. Workers who will ENTER a confined space, perform atmospheric testing, act as the attendant, or take part in rescue must also receive hands-on, practical confined-space training and be deemed competent — this awareness course does not replace it.
Common questions
How long does Confined Space Entry Awareness take?
About 1 hour online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.
How long is the Confined Space Entry Awareness certificate valid?
One year from the day you pass. This is an AWARENESS course.
Which laws and standards does Confined Space Entry Awareness cover?
The Workplace Safety and Health Regulation (Manitoba Regulation 217/2006), Part 15; The Workplace Safety and Health Act (C.C.S.M. c. W210); Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba; and 2 more listed on this page.
Who should take Confined Space Entry Awareness?
Workers who may enter or work near tanks, vaults, pits, and other confined spaces on Manitoba sites.
Is this course part of a training program?
Yes. It is included in Confined Space Entry Program.
