A hot-work course that treats the permit as a live decision — clearing combustibles, testing the atmosphere, and setting the fire watch — across 10 interactions that trace the ignition path before the spark finds it. It makes permit conditions something you enforce, not a box you tick.
Awareness-level hot work and welding safety aligned with Manitoba WSH Regulation (fire and explosion control; welding and allied processes), CSA W117.2, and NFPA 51B. Hot work — welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, torch-applied work — starts fires where there was none, and the worst of those fires do not start while you are watching: sparks and slag travel, drop through gaps, and smoulder in hidden combustibles for hours before flaring up after the crew has gone home.
Enable workers to recognize hot work hazards, understand and use the hot work permit and fire-watch system, prepare and protect the work area, control the welding/cutting process hazards, wear the right PPE, and prevent hot work from starting a fire —…
Welders, cutters, grinders, and any worker performing hot work or standing fire watch on a Manitoba site.
Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for three years. Awareness refresher recommended every 3 years or sooner after a hot-work fire/near-miss, a new process, or a change of site.
This certificate records completion of awareness-level knowledge training in hot work and welding safety. It does not authorize the holder to carry out hot work. Hot work remains governed by the employer's site-specific hot work permit program and the permit issued for the job, and the fire-watch assignment is made by the employer. This training does not confer process-specific competency such as a welder ticket.
About 1 hour online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.
Three years from the day you pass. Awareness refresher recommended every 3 years or sooner after a hot-work fire/near-miss, a new process, or a change of site.
