Asbestos Work & Abatement Awareness

An advanced-awareness course covering the whole controlled-work lifecycle across ten modules and about 325 minutes: recognizing suspect material and getting a qualified determination; the asbestos inventory and the control plan; how work is categorized Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 and why the controls change as the risk rises; wet methods and HEPA controls; respiratory protection and protective clothing and why they are the last layer rather than the first; containment, negative air and decontamination; waste handling, clean-up, clearance and close-out; what to do when something goes wrong; and the Manitoba duties and prohibitions behind all of it. This is awareness training — it is not a WCB-approved asbestos training program and it does not authorize anyone to perform asbestos work.

Certificate and renewal

Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year.

This certificate records completion of awareness-level training in asbestos work and abatement concepts. It is not a WCB asbestos certificate, it is not an asbestos training program under s.37.11 of MR 217/2006, and it does not authorize the holder to carry out asbestos work. Holding a WCB asbestos certificate is not yet a legal condition of performing asbestos work in Manitoba — that requirement takes effect on 1 June 2027; what the regulation requires today, under s.37.8(b)(i), is that the work is done by a person who is competent in asbestos work.
