A boiler and pressure vessel course where operators read gauges and diagnose low-water, overpressure, and relief-valve conditions across 19 interactions and 6 competencies, building the habit of catching a drifting reading before it becomes a rupture.
Operator-support knowledge training for the person an employer assigns to operate and tend a boiler or pressure vessel in a support and monitoring capacity — plant operators, maintenance leads, and facility or boiler-room attendants — in manufacturing, food and beverage, brewing and distilling…
Equip the worker an employer assigns to operate and tend a boiler or pressure vessel to run it within its limits, prove its safeties, keep a defensible log and shut it down safely…
Boiler operators, power engineers, and plant maintenance workers who run or tend fired boilers and pressure vessels.
Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year.
This certificate records completion of operator-support knowledge training in boiler and pressure vessel operation. It does not authorize the holder to operate or tend any particular boiler or pressure vessel. Before that work, the employer must observe the worker monitoring the operating parameters within their limits — reading the pressure against the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP), the temperature, and the water level in the gauge glass — testing a safety device and confirming it actually acted, and stating the safe-shutdown sequence for a low-water or over-pressure condition, and sign that observation off as Competent. It is also not the statutory power-engineer / boiler-operator certificate and does not grant, replace or count toward it: in Manitoba that certificate is issued by the minister under The Power Engineers Act (C.C.S.M. c. P95, s.7(1)), with its classes set by the Power Engineers Regulation (M.R. 40/92), and where a certified power engineer is required to be in charge of a plant that requirement stands. This training does not cover energy control (lockout / tagout) and depressurization, or confined-space entry into a vessel or tank; each is a separate competency.
About 1 hour 20 minutes online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.
One year from the day you pass. Orientra’s standard is for pressure-safety training to be reviewed at least annually and whenever the equipment, systems or processes change — a new boiler or vessel, a modified safety device, a different control system, or a near-miss all trigger a refresh.
Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act (C.C.S.M. c. W210); Manitoba Steam and Pressure Plants Act (C.C.S.M. c. S210); Manitoba Power Engineers Act (C.C.S.M. c. P95); and 7 more listed on this page.
