A core interactive course of 10 interactions and 5 validated competencies covering tie-down counts, working load limits, binding, and shifting cargo under Manitoba and NSC rules. Learners practice securing real loads so cargo stays put and passes roadside inspection.
A load that is not secured will move — braking throws it forward, cornering throws it sideways, and wind and rough road work it loose — and when it shifts or falls it can crush the driver, drop onto the road, or cause a crash for the vehicle behind.
Equip anyone who loads or secures cargo on a work vehicle or trailer to secure a load so it cannot shift, slide, roll, or fall: understand how driving forces move an unsecured load and the danger it creates, size tiedowns to their Working Load Limit and use…
Drivers, loaders, and shippers who secure loads on trucks, trailers, and flatbeds under Manitoba and NSC cargo rules.
Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for three years.
This certificate records completion of awareness-level knowledge training in cargo securement and load safety, and it records the Trained state only. Before a worker loads or secures cargo, the employer must observe the worker sizing tiedowns to their Working Load Limit and using enough of them, blocking and bracing the load, keeping it within the vehicle's weight limits, and completing the pre-trip and en-route securement check, and sign that observation off as Competent. Exact tiedown counts and ratings come from the current NSC Standard 10 and the markings on the equipment.
About 45 minutes online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.
Three years from the day you pass. Cargo securement and load-safety awareness is typically refreshed every 3 years OR sooner after a load-securement incident or near-miss, when a new vehicle, trailer, or load type is introduced, or when a worker begins loading or securing cargo.
The Workplace Safety and Health Act (C.C.S.M. c. W210); The Workplace Safety and Health Regulation (M.R. 217/2006); The Highway Traffic Act (C.C.S.M. c. H60); and 3 more listed on this page.
