An electrical safety awareness course for non-electrical workers that trains recognition of on-the-job hazards — damaged cords, wet conditions, approach limits, and lockout — across 11 interactions and 7 competencies, so workers keep clear of contact.
Electrical safety awareness training for non-electricians, aligned with the Manitoba WSH Act, The Electricians' Licence Act, WSH Regulation MR 217/2006 Part 38, and CSA Z462 (arc flash). It teaches workers to recognize electrical hazards (shock/electrocution, arc flash and blast, electrical fire, and secondary injuries), understand that only qualified workers perform electrical work and that equipment is de-energized, locked out, and tested before touch, inspect cords and power tools and use GFCI in wet/outdoor locations, keep clear of overhead and underground power and the arc-flash boundary, and respond correctly to an electrical emergency.
Equip every non-electrician to recognize electrical hazards, keep clear of energized work, inspect cords and tools, and respond to an electrical emergency — and to understand that only qualified workers do electrical work.
Non-electrical workers who work near energized equipment, cords, panels, and overhead or buried power lines.
Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year. Review awareness training at least annually and when tasks or equipment change. Performing electrical work requires separate qualification beyond this awareness course.
This certificate records completion of awareness-level electrical safety knowledge training for workers who are not electricians: recognizing shock, arc flash and arc blast, electrical fire and secondary injuries; inspecting cords and power tools; using GFCI in wet and outdoor locations; keeping clear of overhead and underground power and of the arc-flash boundary; and responding to an electrical contact or fire. The course does not qualify or license anyone to perform electrical work, and it does not authorize opening or working in energized equipment or going inside an arc-flash boundary. Electrical work in Manitoba is licensed under The Electricians' Licence Act (C.C.S.M. c. E50), a separate credential this course does not confer. The online theory establishes the Trained state; the employer observes the site confirmations — hazards shown, cord and tool inspection, emergency isolation — and records them as the Observed state, signed off as Competent.
About 1 hour 15 minutes online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.
One year from the day you pass. Review awareness training at least annually and when tasks or equipment change.
