Electrical Safety Qualification

A Core Interactive electrical safety qualification course delivering 11 interactions and 7 validated competencies across hazard identification, lockout, boundaries, and PPE selection. Qualification is earned through the decisions a qualified person must make, not by attendance.

Electrical work is among the most unforgiving work there is — shock and arc flash injure and kill in an instant. This course goes beyond basic electrical awareness to build a real understanding of qualified electrical work and the rules that keep it safe.

Build a sound understanding of qualified electrical work — qualified vs unqualified persons, shock and arc-flash hazards, de-energizing and verifying an electrically safe work condition, approach/arc-flash boundaries, and energized-work permits and PPE —…

Who this course is for

Workers being qualified to perform electrical work and tasks on or near energized equipment.

What you will learn

Course outline

  1. Qualified vs Unqualified — Who May Do Electrical Work — What makes a worker qualified, who may perform electrical work, the law, and that this course is not the qualification.
  2. Electrical Hazards in Depth: Shock & Arc Flash — How shock injures and kills, and what arc flash and arc blast are — the explosive hazards of energized equipment.
  3. De-energize First: The Safe State & Approach Boundaries — The cardinal rule to de-energize and verify, how to establish an electrically safe work condition, and the approach boundaries.
  4. When Energized Work Is Unavoidable: Permits, PPE & Controls — Energized work as a last resort: justification, the energized electrical work permit, arc-rated PPE, and insulated tools.
  5. Your Role, Authorization & Your Site — Authorization and licensing, the workplace electrical safety program, and the site-specific information you must know.

Laws and standards covered

Certificate and renewal

Passing the final test issues a QR-verified certificate, valid for one year. Review training at least annually and whenever equipment, tasks, or standards change. This course does NOT replace the licensing/apprenticeship and employer authorization required…

This certificate records completion of the knowledge training in this course: qualified versus unqualified electrical work, shock and arc flash, how an electrically safe work condition is established and verified, approach and arc-flash boundaries, and the energized-work permit and PPE requirements guided by CSA Z462. Although the course is titled a qualification, it is not the qualification, and this certificate is not a licence to work on electrical equipment. Electrical work in Manitoba is licensed under The Electricians' Licence Act (C.C.S.M. c. E50); neither that licence nor apprenticeship standing is conferred by finishing this course. The course does not authorize the holder to establish an electrically safe work condition, to work on or near energized equipment, or to go inside an approach or arc-flash boundary — that authorization comes from the employer and is given only to a qualified worker. The online theory establishes the Trained state; the employer observes the site confirmations and records them as the Observed state, signed off as Competent.

Common questions

How long does Electrical Safety Qualification take?

About 1 hour 15 minutes online, over 5 modules, at your own pace. It ends with a final test that needs 80% to pass.

How long is the Electrical Safety Qualification certificate valid?
