Forklift Operator Certification — Part 1: Theory & Written Test

Part 1 of forklift operator certification, the theory and the written test: 43 interactions covering stability triangles, load handling, pedestrian conflict, and pre-use inspection, ending with 12 validated competencies you can put on the authorization record. It readies a worker for Part 2, the practical evaluation, instead of standing in for it.

Forklift operator certification has two parts, and this course is Part 1: the theory training and the written test. You learn what a certified operator has to know, then prove it on a written test (80% to pass). Part 2 is the practical evaluation.

What you will learn

Course outline

  1. The keys he won’t hand over — Day one of the operator track. Mara reaches for the keys; Dave keeps them.
  2. Know it before you drive it — Dave walks the truck with Mara — "name it before you trust it." Naming the components is how you learn to trust the machine, and it…
  3. The forces you can’t see — At the stability demonstration Mara learns the part she thought she already understood: a load under the plate’s capacity is not…
  4. Five minutes that own the shift — Start of shift, behind schedule. Someone earlier skipped the inspection and had a near-miss.
  5. Every movement is mine — Mara is operating now, Dave observing. The phrase that reframes everything — "every movement is mine" — turns driving into a chain of…
  6. The space around the steel — Maya: "a certified operator reads the floor." Before the truck commits, the whole scene is already mapped — people, blind spots, overhead…
  7. Two seconds — Dave, tense, drills the one reflex that has to fire before the brain decides.
  8. Earning the keys — Dave finally holds out the keys — but they mean something different now. Responsibility accepted, not permission granted.
