Course outline
Eight classes, one shift — Evaluation day: Dave has the whole crew on six different machines. Before any key changes hands, everyone has to know which class they are…
Three ways to stay upright — Every lift truck stays upright the same way — combined centre of gravity inside the base — but the base is built three different ways: a…
How each one stops — The pre-use check is the same idea on every machine, but the controls you trust your life to are not: a seat belt and a seat switch, a…
Same people, every machine — People on foot, riders, ramps, docks, trailers and elevators: the rules don’t change with the class, but the blind spots and the way each…
Loads, height and people in the air — Picking up, carrying and placing a load follows the same order on every class.
Fuel, charge, park — Propane, diesel, gasoline, lead-acid and lithium: each fuel has its own hazard. Parking has one rule for all of them.
The two seconds, by machine — When a lift truck goes over, the right move depends entirely on the machine.
Six keys — The end of evaluation day: six practicals, six lines on the record, six keys.
